PARISH OF ECKINGTON CHURCH STREET SK 4379 11/74 The Rectory 31.1.67 II* Rectory. Late C18, with late C19 additions. Ashlar and coursed rubble coal measures sandstone with quoins, coped gables, moulded kneelers, gable and brick ridge stacks, with stone cornices. Welsh and stone slated roofs. South elevation. Two storey, symmetrical elevation, 1:5:1 bays, the end bays slightly advanced, and with pediments. Blocking course to recessed central range, which has a central doorway with a moulded surround, shallow bracketed pediment with half glazed doors with glazing bars and a rectangular overlight. Glazing bars beneath wedge lintels, incised to resemble voussoirs, 3 x 3 panes to the first floor, and originally 4 x 4 panes to the ground floor, now altered to 5 x 4 panes. Advanced flanking bays with plain cill bands, and Venetian windows set within semi-circular arch headed recesses. Diocletian windows to first floor, and both windows with sash frames. Three bay addition with hipped end to north, with glazing bar sashes in flush stone surrounds. Rear elevation with full height canted tower projections, the tower to the north incorporating a doorway with bracketed pediment. Interior. Principal central ground floor room with C18 panelling, chimneypiece, plaster cornice and panelled doors. Other rooms with chimney pieces, panelled doors, and other original joinery. Stair tower with geometric stair and cast iron handrail and balusters. The detailing of the garden elevation is reminiscent of the stables at Renishaw Hall, 1795 by Joseph Badger.
