Farmhouse. Probably mid-to late C15 with c.1600 and late C19 alterations. Rendered timber frame of cruck construction, partly rebuilt in painted brick; slate roof. Former open hall house, aligned north-east/south-west; former open hall of 2 framed bays with former lower end of one framed bay and projecting solar cross-wing of 2 framed bays at former high end. One storey and attic. South-east front: 2 large gabled eaves dormers with 2-light wooden casements; central brick stack and integral brick end stack to right. 2-light wooden casement to each floor of left-hand cross-wing; hall range with segmental-headed 3-light casement to left and 2 small casements to right; boarded door just to right of stack with gabled porch and boarded door off-centre to right with 2-light wooden casement, both under segmental head; glazed C20 lean-to addition in front to right with door to right. Fire insurances plate in gable of cross-wing. C19 brick lean-to additions at rear. Interior: 3 full cruck trusses with very large blades; chamfered wall-plates; C15 ceiling in end bay has large beam with run-out stops and large plain joists; inserted c.1600 ceiling in centre 2 bays has pairs of chamfered spine beams and chamfered joist, all with ogee stops; c.1600 inserted stack has large open fireplace with chamfered lintel and C17 lozenge-panelled surround with fluted frieze above. The present front door is probably in the same position as the entrance to the C15 hall house which would have led into a screens passage. Graded II* as a well preserved and complete example of a medieval hall house with the usual later inserted floor and stack in the 2 former hall bays. V.C.H., Vol. VIII, p. 304; Alcock, p. 144; C.
