War memorial. 1923 by Reginald Blomfield. Portland Stone 'Cross
of Sacrifice'. A tall tapering cross with tapering arms and
expanded terminals. Deeply chamfered rectangular section
continued through moulded base of cross, large inscribed drum
with its stepped foot on 2 steps of unequal height and
corresponding plinth bringing it up to the level of the terrace.
All of an elongated octagonal plan parallel with the S range of
the main Quad. On the front (S) a large Damascus sword in bronze
originally gilded. A simple monument on the central axis of the
S front. Included for group value. (Blunt (1966) 22,28).
