School buildings. 1887-8 by Reginald Blomfield. The hall named after the celebrated Dr Bradby, Head Master for 15 years up to 1883. Red brick with stone dressings and steep red tiled gabled roofs. A tall two and a half storeys rectangular block with entrance up 7 steps in W gable end. Lower 2 storeys block as cross-wing at E end. Tall single storey gymnasium block attached at E. 7-bay hall-block in elaborate Dutch renaissance style with tall 2-storeys octagonal cupola at centre of roof. Sides have buttresses with moulded offsets rising to a brick cornice and central 5-panels carried up as a range of dormer windows. Mullioned and transomed wooden windows. Large moulded stucco panels with inscriptions at upper floor level. Entrance by round arched opening under large stone balcony. Gabled parapet with stone balls and pilasters flanking upper round arched windows. Fine timberframed 1st floor hall with arcaded galleries and open timber roof in Jacobean style, approached by similar staircase. Simpler gym block with tall octagonal louvred cupola with ogee lead cap. 5 3-light windows set high on N front entrance under central window. Moulded plinth and band at sill level, and full entablature in rubbed red brick. Steep hipped tile slopes to edges of wide-span square roof. Pedimented hood on moulded brackets to 3-panel double doors. Lower block with rounded gable and 3-windows linking Bradby Hall on W. 2 tall round arches in screen on E linking to laundry yard (Blunt (1966) 18, 19, 28).
