St Luke's church was begun in 1843 and completed in 1850. It is in the style of the Commissioners' churches of the 1820/30s, a Georgian Gothick rather than of the more serious correct Gothic. The west tower has been described as "like a salt shaker" rising from the centre of the west wall, half in and half out of the church.
