Staff mess to offices. 1934 by Geoffrey Monro for the de Havilland Aviation Company. White painted reinforce concrete; flat roof concealed behind parapet. Plan: Managers' mess to NE with rounded corners and entrance and stairhall projecting on NE end; larger and wider staff mess to SW with projecting entrance block at SW end. International Modern Style. Exterior 2 storeys. Managers' mess at NE end has rounded corners with curved windows and horizontal bands of windows with green glazed tile piers and metal frames. Projecting on NE end 2-storey entrance and stairhall block with broad metal frame window on ground and first floors, the ground floor with integral doorway on left with cantilevered canopy. Behind to the SW a wider and taller block, the staff mess, with similar windows on the ground floor but 5 tall first floor windows on either side. Segmental raised parapets at either end of staff mess, at SW end projecting entrance block of 2 storeys with horizontal window band on first floor and doorway on ground floor with cantilevered canopy and flanking integral windows. Interior: Open-well staircase in managers' mess with unpierced balustrade and moulded wooden handrail, raised and ramped up at corners. Note: These were the messes to the offices of the de Havilland Aviation Company, where many famous aeroplanes were designed including the Tiger Moth, Dragonfly, Mosquito, Vampire and Comet.
