NUNEATON ANSLEY ROAD, Robinson's End SP39SW (South side) 1/10004 Robinson's End Farmhouse II

Farmhouse. Circa early C18 remodelling and enlarging of circa C17 house. Sandstone rubble with dressed quoins and large lintels; red brick rear wing. Plain tile roof with gabled ends. Brick axial stacks. PLAN: 2-room plan front [east] range with smaller left room; both rooms heated from back-to-back fireplaces in central axial stack; and with stair tower behind the left room in angle with 2-room plan rear service wing. Rear wing appears to be the original circa C17 house with a large fireplace in an axial stack. EXTERIOR:2-storey and attic, 2-window east range. Windows have quoins and large sandstone lintels with relieving arches above; C20 2-light casements; no front doorway. Sandstone masonry continues into base of stair tower in rear left [south-west] angle of rear wing, brick above with lean-to roof. In opposite [north-west] angle doorway and C19 open-sided porch.Rear wing has various casements, C20 conservatory on south side and single storey outbuildings on west end. INTERIOR: Rooms in front [east] range have high ceilings and slightly chamfered cross-beams; similar chamfered beams in chambers above. East room in rear [west] wing has deeply chamfered axial beam without stops and large fireplace with unchamfered timber lintel; room behind [west] has unchamfered cross-beams. Winder stairs in tower with C18 balustrade at top with moulded balusters, square newel and moulded handrail. East range attic chambers ceiled. Rear [west] wing has large side purlins exposed in chambers, large ridgepiece and old common rafters.
