THE GRADE SHALL BE AMENDED TO II AND THE DESCRIPTION SHALL BE AMENDED TO READ:

House 1939. Galleted clunch with red brick dressings; plain tile roof. 2 storeys with attic, 5 x 3 bays. Brick plinth, plat band, eaves band and quoins at angles and to openings. Symmetrical facade. 5 stone steps up to part-glazed, small pane door in architrave with console-bracketed pediment; 8-pane sash sidelights. Above door and to outer bays, segmental-arched tripartite windows having 12-pane sashes to centre flanked by 4-pane sashes; 12-pane sashes to other bays. Parapet with brick-quoined recesses and stone coping. Mansard roof having 4 flat-roofed dormers with 12-pane sashes and a brick stack to each side of the roof. Returns: style continued from front, right return having 2 part-glazed doors and 2 dormers, left return having central panelled door and fanlight in architrave with console- bracketed canopy, left bay blind with blind 1st floor window opening and 1 dormer. Venetian window to rear. Interior: Curved stone stair with decorative iron railings; panelled doors, decorative fireplaces; cellars retain a fragment of C18 brickwork. History: this house was built on the site of Castle Farmhouse, which was built in 1786 for St Harry Fetherstonhaugh as an estate farmhouse to Up Park, and which was demolished in 1939 to be replaced by the present structure. It is reputed that some of the stone used in Castle Farmhouse came from an earlier house (Ladywell), and some of the stone in the present structure may be reused from Castle Farmhouse.

Mansarded slate roof. Glazing bars intact. Doorway with pediment on south front. Venetian window on north front. Doorway on west front with pilasters, flat hood on brackets and semi-circular fan- light. Two storeys and attic. Five windows. Three dormers.
