Secondary building of ropeworks; now public house. Early C19; restored c1985 by Sunderland Borough Council. Roughly squared rubble with ashlar dressings; Welsh slate roof with stone gable copings. 2 storeys, 6 windows. Keyed plain stone surround and renewed wrought-iron gates to round-headed archway in second bay. Flat stone lintels, alternate-block jambs and projecting stone sills to renewed windows with glazing bars. Roof has end gable copings. Right, west, corner rounded on ground floor below corbelling. Right return has diagonal brick buttress on stone plinth. Rear built into hillside. An additional building for the Webster's Ropery (qv) established c1793 for the world's first mechanical rope-making process.
