Marked on OS as Cotham Lodge. House. c1850. Limestone ashlar, ashlar gable stacks and a slate hip roof. Double-depth plan. Italianate style. 2 storeys and attic; 3-window range. A symmetrical front articulated forward slightly at the ends and centre, with banded rustication to the ground floor to a cornice, paired first-floor Tuscan pilasters to the projecting sections, a frieze, modillion cornice and parapet between dormer openings. A deep, central, flagged Corinthian portico has 2 pairs of columns to an entablature, over a doorway with an architrave to a 2-leaf half-glazed door. Tripartite ground-floor windows have 6/6-pane sashes down to the ground, flanked by 1/1-pane sashes; first-floor windows above have shouldered architraves and console cornices to 6/6-pane sashes. To the right is a lower windowless block with projecting centre, rusticated ground floor and panelled first floor, a central niche and a C20 inserted 2/2-pane sash to the left end. Left return in 3 sections articulated by paired pilasters, has the pedimented centre break forward with an eagle on top, and a single-storey stone conservatory with tall casements with glazing bars, and a balustrade. INTERIOR: C20 glazed screen to a large central hall with modillion cornice, divided by a flat arch on acanthus consoles from a good open-well stair with moulded string and soffit, cast-iron balusters, and curtail with wreathed rail; back stairs to the right have stick balusters and column newels; 6-panel doors with panelled reveals, a good stained-glass rear stair window, and 8-panel shutters.
