House in several builds, possibly once in separate occupation, various accretions providing a small courtyard to rear. In 1982 became offices serving the Magistrates Court in College Lane. Sited on junction of St Margaret's Place and College Lane. College Lane building late C15, altered and with west gable rebuilt 1982 to abut new magistrates court. Brick with areas of conglomerate and ashlar. Pantiled roof. North front of 2 storeys in 3 wide bays. Ground-floor east bay with a modest added entrance extension with C20 door and window. 2 sashes to right, the first a tripartite C20 replacement. 3 mullioned timber windows to first floor. Gabled roof. Rear opens onto courtyard. Much C15 brick walling evident. One casement and one sash to ground floor in inserted openings under late C20 soldier arches. Between them is a blocked doorway under a depressed arch with a segmental relieving arch above. Above and to the left of this is a blocked round-arched window, repeated as a recess in the interior. One 4-light mullioned window to right at first floor. INTERIOR. Apart from the window recess one room has early C17 masons' mitre small-framed panelling to each of its 3 walls. The panels have incised bead-edging. The other wall (to the west) has been opened into an adjacent room under a rolled steel joist. Portion of house on corner of the street substantially mid-C17. 2 storeys. 2 bays to College Lane and one bay to St Margaret's Place, the whole ingeniously contrived to present a gable-end to each front. College Lane front: 2 ground-floor C18 sashes with exposed boxes and glazing bars are set beneath C17 moulded hoods. 2 similar moulded hoods above and one to attic, all with blocked windows. Gabled pantile roof with returns to former east and west parapets. St Margaret's Lane front with a C20 tripartite sash to ground and one mid C18 sash with glazing bars to first and attic storeys above. Gabled roof again with a brick stack at junction of the 2 gables. Blocked 2-light mullioned cellar window. To south is a 2-storey, 5-bay mid C18 addition in red brick and plaintile roof (pantiles to rear) fronting St Margaret's Place. Central panelled door in doorcase with panelled reveals. Plain Ionic pilasters support broken pediment. Fanlight. Sashes with glazing bars and gauged skewback arches. Timber modillion eaves cornice below gabled roof. The rear opens into courtyard through an outshut under a catslide roof, which was once the rear wall of a C16 brick building. 2 round-arched sashes inserted in C18 to the ground floor, with glazing bars, that to south opened into a door late in C20. Above are two C20 plate-glass windows. INTERIOR. Minor details only of C18. Early C19 staircase with stick balusters and ramped and wreathed handrail. The flights above the ground floor are entirely late C20 copies. South again is a late C18 two-storey, 2-bay, brown brick extension also fronting St Margaret's Place. No door. 2 sashes each floor with glazing bars and gauged skewback arches. Timber eaves cornice below gabled slate roof. Internal gable-end stack to south. The rear forms the south side of the courtyard.
