HIGH ABBOTSIDE SEDBERGH-ASKRIGG ROAD SD 89 SE (north side) 7/156 Stone House - II House. 1908. By P Morley Horder of London, for Hugh Arden Crallan (1867- 1929). Rubble with ashlar dressings, stone slate roof. L-shaped plan, with C20 addition forming matching rear wing; 2 storeys, 1:1:2:1 first-floor windows. Quoins. Bays 2 and 5 project slightly, are quoined and have coped gables. First bay: loggia with circular rubble columns with cushion capitals; inner part-glazed door in ogee-chamfered architrave with small windows flanking; above, 3-light window in tile-hung dormer. Other windows lead-paned. Second bay: 4-light mullion and transom window with dripmould on ground floor, 3-light mullion window with stepped hood-mould on first floor. Third bay: 4-light mullion and transom window with hood-mould on ground floor; 3-light mullion window on first floor. Fourth bay: round- arched ashlar doorway with keystone and raised panel above with hood-mould continuous with window to left and stepped over-panel; inner square-headed ashlar doorway with C20 glazed door; 2-light mullion window on first floor. Fifth bay: 3-light mullion and transom window with dripmould on ground floor; 3-light mullion window with stepped hood-mould on first floor. Square eaves stacks between bays 2 and 3, 4 and 5. Decorative cast-iron rainwater heads. Interior: high-quality original interiors survive, including oak-panelled lounge to left and decoratively-panelled boudoir.
