CHULMLEIGH EAST STREET, (south side), ss 6814 -6914 Chulmleigh 7/59 Smythms Park GV II

House. Circa 1800. Rendered stone rubble and cob. Slate roof with gable end to left and half-hip to right end with hip finial. Brick stacks at each end. Plan: Principal front room to each side of central through passage the left-hand room heated by fireplace to rear wall which shares the stack with the fireplace across the left-hand angle of the kitchen to rear. Staircase between front and second parlour to rear of right passage. Exterior: 2 storeys with attic. Symmetrical facade with 16 paned hornless sash to each side of semi-circular arched blind window. Central doorway has unmoulded timber architrave and recessed 6 panelled door with plain overlight flanked by slightly bowed 20 paned sashes. All fenestration is original and facade is particularly unspoilt. 3 window range to rear, also with C19 sashes. Interior. Early C19 joinery largely intact. Fireplaces to principal rooms replaced in C20. Cambered ceiling to attic chamber. 4 panelled doors throughout. Decorative tiled floor to through-passage.
