Terrace of 6 houses, now flats. c1820-34. Stucco over brick, ashlar to left, with concealed roof. EXTERIOR/PLAN: 3 storeys on basements, 12 first-floor windows, with 2-storey, single bay set back to left. Double depth plan with left side stairhalls; second and right-hand houses break forward and are pedimented with Doric pilasters through first and second floors; ground floor (except to left house) breaks forward with Doric pilasters between windows to breakforwards (otherwise missing), the ground floor forming a 'loggia'. 6/6 sashes to left house with 3/6 to second floor; otherwise first floor has 6-pane French windows, with overlights with margin-lights in tooled surrounds, frieze and cornice (dentil remain to No.52); second floor has 3/3 sashes in tooled architraces and with sills; ground floor has 6/6 sashes where original. Basements have 6/6 sashes where original. Crowning frieze and cornice. Entrances to left of each house: flight of roll-edged steps where original to 6-panel doors with fanlight with batwing-type glazing bars to left otherwise overlights (some with margin-lights), entrance to left has distyle Ionic porch with architrave, pulvinated frieze and dentil cornice. INTERIOR: photographs (dated 1991) show that No.52 has double 10-panel doors with divided overlight, all with margin-lights, in panelled reveals; marble Regency fireplace and egg-and-dart cornice with ball ceiling frieze. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: renewed first-floor balustrades. Footscrapers to top of steps to No.50. HISTORICAL NOTE: Grosvenor Street apparently shown on Merrett's Map of 1834 as Gyde Terrace.
