Farmhouse. Dated /1627/JOHN BROWNE on plaque with raised lettering over door north- west front (q.v. monuments inside Tirley church), north-west front rebuilt c1800, C20. Rendered blue lias and timber-framing, red tile roof, brick stacks. U-shaped plan. C20 lean-to onto right gable-end at rear not of special interest. Two storeys and attic, cellar under right-hand wing. Triple gabled three-windowed north-west front; two 16-pane sashes to ground floor, 12-pane sashes to first floor. All sashes within beaded architraves. C20 four-light window with horizontal glazing bars lower left. C20 three-light windows with horizontal glazing bars to attic. Two steps up to fielded 6-panel door off-centre left with flat canopy. Right-hand wall lit by 16-pane sashes. Early C19 part-glazed double doors with coloured, decorated marginal glazing incorporating grisaille landscape at top. Decorative cast iron surround with canopy missing. Similiar door at back of courtyard at rear, now partially blocked and reused as window. Three-light casement with glazing bars over. Rendered tie beams visible in gable-end of right-hand wing. Axial stack and projecting stack from gable-end of rear right-hand wing. Interior: C17 panelling in rear right-hand room with simple painting around margins of each panel. Fine Jacobean overmantel over fireplace. Central part of overmantel comprises blind arcade of 3 archways, split turned decoration; geometric decoration in relief. Orange marbling at centre of each blind archway, grey marbling outside highlighted in gold. Deep-chamfered tie beams with ogeestops. C17 open-well staircase with turned balusters. (V.C.H. Glos.
