Rectory. 1841-44. By Henry Goddard (Brandwood and Cherry). Red brick in Flemish bond; stucco and ashlar dressings; Welsh slate and tile roofs. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-bay entrance front in Tudor Revival style; twin wings to rear. Chamfered plinth. Gabled porch to centre has recessed, part-glazed door in Tudor-arched surround; hoodmould with decorative stops; coped gable. Flanking windows are set in shallow projections with gables: canted, 1-storey bay windows have sashes of 1:2:1 lights with horizontal glazing bars and corniced wooden surrounds on brick plinths. Matching fenestration to first floor windows of 3-lights with projecting sills and bonded surrounds; blank shield to each gable; shaped ashlar kneelers to stuccoed parapet with copings. 2-light window over porch has hoodmould with carved stops. Twin-flue end stacks each with plinth, band and blue-brick top. Right return: late C19 canted bay with French window; 3-light cast- iron Gothic window above; similar 6-light window to ground-floor right in altered opening. Rear wings have ridge stacks as front. Interior (not fully inspected): paved stair-hall with open-string staircase having square newel and plain balustrade which sweeps round without a half-landing. 6-panel doors in broad architraves. Simple marble fireplace in front -left room has tiled, cast-iron inset. A stop-chamfered beam in room with 6-light Gothic window is of earlier origin. 'Men of Property.
