WIGGINTON VICARAGE ROAD SP 91 SW (North side) 4/169 The Old Rectory - GV II House. Later C17, early C18 extensions to rear and E end. Timber framed and brick cased, roughcast, exposed frame at E gable of single storey E extension but otherwise refaced in brick and flint now painted. Old red tile roofs. A 2 storeys, 2 windows, 2-cells plan house on roadside facing S, with twin parallel 2-storeys N new wings and low E extension set back to allow a small gabled porch at SE in gable wall beside a large projecting plastered E gable chimney. 2 light flush casement windows with small panes and segmental arches to ground floor. 2 square and one cruciform tie rod plates at floor level on front. Large E room has an axial chamfered beam and large open fireplace with narrower service room at W. NW rear wing a kitchen with wide gable fireplace. Stair not in original position. Former wall plate a little above floor level in rear wall supports heightened studs of rear N wall. Corner posts, raised wall plates and tie-beams. 2 bays, clasped-purlin roof strutted from partition tie-beam. At some time roof lathed and plastered up to apex. Rear wings of brick roughcast but with timber frame N gable triangles. Formerly called The Old Cottage. (RCHM Typescript).
