WOODSTOCK MARKET PLACE SP4416NW (South side) 9/148 Nos.9 and 11 13/02/69 (Formerly listed as No.9, No.11) GV II Inn, now house, shop, workshop and part of Bear Hotel, Park Street (q.v.). Early C18; C17 rear right wing; refronted in late C19. Squared and coursed limestone with limestone rubble to rear; gabled stone slate roof; brick end stacks and rear ridge stacks. L-plan with rear right wing. 2 storeys and attic; 6-window range. Flat stone arches over central C20 door to passage, late C19 panelled and glazed door to left of centre, and C20 door to right. Wide canted bay window with C20 lights to right. Late C19 canted bay window to left. Stone lintels over late C19 plate-glass sashes. C18 coved cornice; 3 gabled roof dormers with plate-glass sashes. Rear: stair-turret to centre, and C18 wings to left with concrete tile roofs; to rear right are C17 and C18 wings with stone slate and asbestos sheet roofs and early C19 workshop of 3-storey, 4-window range with concrete tile roof. Interior: chamfered beams in front range. C17 rear wing has stop-chamfered beams. No.9 not inspected but likely to ber of interest. Known in C18 as Crown Inn, when it had central carriageway.
