History

House, latterly nurses' home, disused on inspection (February 1993). Built some time after 1872 (not shown on first edition O.S. of that year), and possibly designed by J.R.Gummow.

Exterior

Brick with stone dressings and slate roof. 2 storeys, 3-window range with central entrance between 2 pedimented gables. 'Anglo-Italian' style. Entrance in porch with coupled pilasters and heavy entablature, with 2-pane sash window above. Advanced right hand gable has wide canted bay window with pilasters and entablature with blocking course, and 2-pane sash window in pedimented stone architrave above. Left hand gable is only slightly advanced, and has squared bay window with stone pilasters, entablature and blocking course. 2-pane sash window in pedimented, entablature above. Eaves throughout overhang on moulded brackets, and continue to form open pediment in gables. Dentilled pediments, each surmounted by terracotta fleche.

Part of an important group of late C19 villas, which together form a good example of urban estate development.
