Small mansion, now divided into flats and extended. c1870 (with late C20 extensions). Rusticated coursed and squared stone with ashlar bands and slate roof. EXTERIOR AND PLAN: 2 storeys with partial basement and attic. Square in plan. Former entrance front faces west, present entrance in extensions of c1980 to rear. 3-window range with advanced central pedimented bay, with projecting single storey porch, now disused, the doorway now a window. Round arched doorway and triple arcaded window alongside. Other windows all renewed in original openings with moulded architraves. First floor central window round arched, and round arched window in attic. Heavy modillion eaves cornice forms pediment across gable. Eastern elevation has principal 3-window range with central pedimented gable, and subsidiary single-window range to right, with shallow pedimented gablet. central canted bay window in principal section and tripartite windows above. Similar tripartite windows in right-hand bay. South elevation similar, with wide advanced gable to the right with projecting tripartite window in architrave with stressed entablature to ground floor, the upper window in architrave with pedimented head cutting the roof line. Canted bay window to left, with pedimented tripartite window above. Axial and end wall stacks. INTERIOR: not inspected. HISTORY: the hall was for a time the home of Sir John Holden, owner of the nearby Astley Bridge Mill, Blackburn Road (qv).
