House with shop and house being repaired at time of survey. C17, remodelled in the C18 and further remodelled in the mid C19. Stucco to front; dry slate mansard roof with 4 horned sashes; 2 lateral rendered stacks at rear. Overall U-shaped plan including rear wings at an angle. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys plus attic within mansard roof; 2:2-window range with late C19 4-pane horned sashes. 3 doorways: 1 to left of house and 2 under moulded entablature of mid C19 pilastered double shopfront with later transomed glazing, splayed recessed central shop doorway and ope doorway on right; panelled doors with some later glazed panels. INTERIOR: of No.25 incorporates or retains some C17 and C18 features including C17 ovolo-moulded doorway and a moulded beam; C18 turned balusters to mid C19 staircase and an C18 door with fielded panels. Mid C19 features include plank and muntin partition to side of entrance passage, a segmental-arched corner cupboard and a c1840 hob grate to front room, and slightly later C19 grates to other rooms inspected. Interior of No.24 not inspected but likely to retain similar features. New Street contains a high proportion of fine C17 and C18 houses.
