RUSHTON C.P. A523 (south-west side) SJ 96 SW 4/141 Hammerton House - - II

House. Probably C17 or early C18, remodelled mid-C19 and later alterations. Coursed, squared and dressed rubble; stone slate roof; crenellated brick end stacks. 2-storey, 3-window front with slight, gabled projection inset from left end with verge parapet crested by fleur-de-lys; labelled 3-light casement first-floor window over raised string at cill level and rectangular, flat-roofed 3-light fronted bay window; similar 2-light fronted bay window to right, and plain 3-light casement above to first floor; round-arch centre window of 2 lights with raised surround simply moulded at imposts and keystone; bracketted cill set over Tudor-arched doorway with 6 Gothick panels. Formerly used as an inn; the brew-house with its picturesque rounded corner is at the north-west corner to the rear. Extension to left-hand (Hammerton Cottage) not included.
