Farmhouse. Mid-C17 with C19 additions, partly remodelled by G. Birdwood Willcocks in late 1930s. Regularly coursed limestone rubble with ashlar front; artificial stone slate roofs with coped verges. Basic T-plan comprising 3-unit baffle-entry main range and probably slightly later rear range with late C19 single-storey additions attached to left gable end of main range and at an oblique angle to rear range. 2 storeys and attic. Main range has slightly irregularly spaced 3-window front; chamfered 3-light mullions with dripstone and 1930s leaded lights. Infilled openings on each floor to right of left windows formerly had 2-light mullion windows. Three C20 gabled dormers in middle of roof slope. Entrance to right of centre window has dripstone and C20 plank door. Ridge stack directly above and integral end stacks to left and right, all with dripstones and moulded capping. Right gable end has chamfered rectangular windows with dripstones to first floor and attic. 3-light mullion window with moulding similar to those at Chastleton House (q.v.) to back wall, ground floor, and similar window to right wall of rear range, ground floor, both with dripstones. Interior. Much altered 1930s and subsequently. Room to left of entrance (formerly 2) has boxed cross beams and open fireplace with chamfered wood lintel to right wall; infilled inglenook fireplace to left. Chamfered spine beam to ground-floor of rear range. 1930s addition in angle to rear on right is not of special architectural interest. (Ideal Home: (March 1946), pp40-44) [2477]
