Farmhouse, now house. Circa 1600 and early C17 with early C18 alterations and early C19 remodelling. Cement-rendered (lined as ashlar) timber frame with red brick nogging, timber framed rear wing with painted brick nogging; slate roofs. Framing: Circa 1600 closely spaced uprights with middle rail and C17 square panels. L-plan; baffle-entry range of 3 framed bays with one-bay wing at rear. 2 storeys with wing of one storey and attic. Brick ridge stack off-centre to right and integral lateral brick stack to rear wing. 3 bays; 2 outer first-floor early C18 glazing bar sashes with moulded architraves and delicate early C19 wrought-iron balconies, and 2 outer ground-floor plate-glass sashes with early C18 moulded architraves. Roughly central, probably early C19 rendered porch with rounded front corners, moulded stone cornice, blocking course and wrought-iron balustrade above to pair of early C19 French casements with surround consisting of moulded architrave and brackets supporting moulded cornice; 2 stone steps with flanking stone globes up to central early C19 six-panelled door (lower 2 beaded flush and upper 4 raised and fielded) with reeded impost band, margin-lights, rectangular overlight and doorcase with reeded pilaster strips, frieze and plain cornice. Right-hand return front: ground-floor early C18 glazing bar sash to left and early C19 half-glazed door to right with margin lights, 2 lower beaded flush panels and doorcase with reeded pilaster strips, frieze and moulded cornice. Left-hand return front with first-floor glazing bar sash and late C19 one-storey additions with 2-light metal casement to front. Rear: first-floor leaded casements to left. Kitchen wing projecting to right with pair of ground-floor casements, and jettied gable with moulded bressumer, collar truss with queen struts, and 2-light leaded metal casement. Flanking lean-to additions, each with boarded door. Interior: old boarded doors with L-hingesand early C19 doors with 6 raised and fielded panels. Ground- floor room in rear wing with chamfered spine beams and moulded Tudor- arched stone fireplace with bar stops and moulded surround. Left-hand ground-floor room has early C18 depressed-arched fireplace with projecting imposts blocks and keystone and right-hand ground-floor room has C17 panelling with fluted frieze and door dated: "RAK 1603". Early C19 staircase with turned balusters, turned newel posts and ramped moulded handrail. Right-hand bedroom with moulded cornice and left-hand bedroom has a small c.1700 fireplace with bolection-moulded surround. The front eaves were probably raised to their present height in the early C18. This house is notable for the almost complete survival of its interior fittings of different dates.
