GV II

House, early C18th with C17th remains. Sandstone rubble with stone slate roof. L-plan, with 2 separate blocks touching at their corners. 2 storeys with attic. Front block, facing south-west, has 2 bays with flush chamfered mullioned windows, of 2 light at the left (the ground-floor one with mullion removed) and one at the right. Gable chimneys. At the left the rear wall of the front block overlaps the gable wall of the rear block sufficiently to allow an inter-connecting internal doorway. The gable of the rear block has blocked openings: this together with keyed stonework suggests that the unusual plan is accounted for by a sequence of rebuilding and demolition on the site. The rear wall of the front block, facing north-east, has a door at the left with chamfered surround and a lintel inscribed: 'IT 1660'. To the right a lean-to in the inner angle with the rear wing has a doorway with cyma-moulded surround and lintel inscribed: 'RMT 1719'. The south-east wall of the rear wing has 2 bays with 3-light mullioned windows, flush chamfered except for the right-hand one on the 1st floor which is rebated and chamfered. The left-hand bay is blank on the ground floor. The gable wall has a 2-light rebated and chamfered cellar window. Above at intermediate levels are 2 similar windows. The attic has a 3-light window. The north-west wall of the rear block has a 3-light flush chamfered mullioned window on both floors, the lower one with mullions extended. Interior. The front block is in a derelict condition, with the 1st floor and part of the roof covering missing. It has a moulded shouldered fireplace and one truss with tie beam and queen struts. The rear wing has a shouldered fireplace with cornice mantel. The 2 trusses have curved principals and no collars.
