1. 5018 HIGH STREET (East Side) HAREFIELD Harefield House TQ 0590 5/213 II 2. Now MOD Procurement Executive. Building of the last decade of the C17, thoroughly altered and refaced in early C19. 3 storeys, 5 windows, the left bay slightly set back. Stucco with incised lines. Cornice and blocking course concealing low pitched hipped slate roof. Chimeys at ends and centre, the latter with arched panels. Sash windows with glazing bars in exposed frames. In 2 right bays windows blocked Tuscan porch in 2nd bay from left. Early C18 building at left, now covered in similar stucco. 2 storeys, 6 windows irregular. 1st floor band. Slated roof. Sash windows with glazing bars, some C18. 3-bay right return has long casements. Modern back extensions. Inside a late C17 staircase with turned balusters, closed string, having entablature with swell frieze, and square section handrail. Vaulted brick cellars of similar period. Much good early C19 woodwork.
