The Pillars

II

Early C19 temple-like building. The original lodge of the former Watergate
House, which has been demolished. The house was built by Sir John Soane,
though rebuilt in 1882. The lodge may therefore be by Soane also. Two
storeys. One window facing south, two windows facing west. Faced with
flints. Cornice and window surrounds of Roman cement. Glazing bars intact.
The entrance front to the south which originally faced the drive, has a
portico of four Ionic columns of Roman cement with a flint pediment over.
