Description

ROCKBOURNE MANOR FARM SU 1118 14/26 Manor Farm & wall 30.9.64 running NE (Formerly listed as Manor GV House) I Manor House and wall. Small C14 house, with alterations, and late C17 range altered C19/20. Rubble stone and flint (some herringbone pattern) stone repairs, much brick rebuilding, later part painted brick, old plain tile roofs. Plan of small S-shaped C14 building, 2 storey, of 2 bay range facing church, with 2 bay hall wing across one end, wall beyond it, square plan projection to rear of other bay; at that end C18 (altered) link to 2 storey, 5 bay late C17 range at right angles. Entrance front of building now late C17 range, which has slightly projecting half-hipped LH bay. Just LH of centre half-glazed door under moulded flat hood on thin columns and pilasters. In other bays large C20 2 or 4-light casements under segmental arches, cutting 1st floor raised band. On 1st floor C18 leaded 2 or 3-light casements. End stacks and ridge stack between RH bays. Front facing church has hall wing projecting forward at RH end of chamber range and link to C17 range at LH end with C20 additions in front of all but hall. Hall range has C14 three-centred head door, blocked with herringbone flint work, facing N door of church. Some blocked lancets. Chamber range has wooden casements, and 1st floor offset with stone tiles. On 1st floor stone mullioned windows. Gable walls and brick stacks over junction of ranges, and at LH end. Gables and other sides rebuilt in brick. From RH corner of hall range, wall of cob and tile coping runs 20m to corner of chapel barn (qv), bounding small garden around house.
