WICKHAM BRIDGE STREET SU 5711 (north side) 10/39 Wickham Bridge 7.2.52 II

Roadbridge across the River Meon. 1792. Red brick walls in English bond, slightly pointed small archways, stone-weathered parapet, raised by curves in the centre above a stone plaque, inscribed BUILT By Subscription 1792. The long bridge stretches across four low arches, the western two (close together) being outlets from the Chesapeake Mill, the centre on the natural line of the river, and the eastern a tributary joining the main stream immediately below the bridge; all these arms meet at a point south of the middle arch. The south wall is the original part, turning at an angle at each end, and ending with a pier at the east side.
