BECKFORD CP MAIN STREET (south side) SO 9635 - 9735 13/56 12/7 The Old House 7-1-83 - II
House. Probably C16 with mid-C19 alterations and additions. Partly coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, part ashlar and part timber-framed with rendered infill and some painted brick replacement walling. Plain tiled roofs with parapet at west gable end and also west end ashlar ridge stack with rebuilt brick shaft. There is also a C20 yellow and blue brick stack to the north side of the main ridge. L-plan; main range of three bays aligned east/ west with two-bay wing at west end of rear south elevation. The wing has a large external chimney with offsets and a rebuilt brick stack on its east side. Two storeys, cellar and attic with dormers. Framing: two rows of square panels at first floor level to central and west bay of north elevation and to west elevation of rear wing. North front elevation: irregular fenestra- tion; windows C19 casements. There is a 2-light window, a large 3-light window and a 4-light chamfered mullioned window on the ground floor; all have hoodmoulds. On the first floor are two 3-light windows with weatherboarded infill beneath them. In the western bay the ground floor is situated at a higher level and there is a 3-light chamfered mullioned cellar window with iron bars. Attic light in east gable end. Main entrance in rear south elevation. A C19 single- storey two-bay wing adjoins the east side of the rear wing, partly enclosing the external chimney.
