1/3 Cloisters, Music Room and related buildings adjoining to west of Dinmore Manor - House 26.1.67 GV II

Music Room, South Room, Cloisters and grotto. 1932 to 1936. By the inventor of "Cats' Eyes", Richard Hollins Murray, in C14 Arts and Crafts Style. Dressed sandstone, plain tiled roofs, twisted chimney shafts in brick on either side of principal gable to Music Room. Roughly cruciform plan oriented north/south with Music Room (Great Hall) projecting northwards from the east arm; Cloisters occupy east and south arms; the grotto the west arm; the south arm terminates in an octagonal structure known as the South Room; the short north arm is an entrance-way leading to an octagon at the junction of the four arms. One and two storeys, eight bays to south Cloisters, seven to east Cloisters, each of which have an open terrace on their roofs, with decorated tracery to rear wall of Cloisters. South elevation: canted window in gable to Music Room with niche pinnacle to parapet. Two-storey octagon at junction of two Cloister ranges with trefoil-headed lancets, stone water shutes and cardinal faces, and two tier roof capping. South Room over cellar has pierced parapet and conical roofed access tower attached to north. North-east side of Music Room also has conical roofed circular-plan loggia, its north end has a transverse apse with picturesque fenestration. Entries from apse and east range of Cloisters up steps to Music Room and from north of octagon through ledged oak doors. Interior: all the stained glass by William Morris and Co of Westminster. Music Room has oak hammer-beam roof, gallery to south, inglenook to north, stained glass of allegorical scenes including Kerak (sic) de Chevaliers, "Canterbury Pilgrims" and a Peacock window; octagon has detached columns; grotto has bright stained glass window depicting a tropical island scene; South Room has more glass illustrating illustrious Knights Hospitaller.
