TICKTON ESKE TA 04 SE 8/55 Eske Manor 6/83 - II*

House. Mid C17, with C18 and C19 rear wings. Red brick, pantiled roofs. 2 storeys, 4 bays 2:1:1, with projecting 2-storey porch, and single-bay wing to right under pentice roof. Centre-lobby entry with through-stack passage leading formerly to the rear stair tower, now demolished. Porch: ground floor: 6-panel bolection-moulded door under segmental arch with moulded imposts and projecting keyblock. Moulded first-floor band (a cavetto moulding above a torus) with low pediment over. First floor: small 2-pane sash under a flat gauged brick arch. Rubbed brick Lombard frieze beneath dentilled brick cornice. To the gable is a blank opening painted in imitation of a 2-light mullioned window, under a dentilled floating cornice. Coped gable. The main block has paired 2-pane sashes under flat gauged brick arches throughout: the first-floor band and eaves cornice run continuously around the building. The axial stack has 4 linked flues: the partly external end stacks have twin flues, diagonally set. Wing to right: moulded band and tumbled-in brick to plain close verges. Interior: ground floor: a passage through the thickness of the stack links the lobby to the blocked entrance to the former rear stair tower. First floor: the room to the left of the porch is entirely boarded out and painted in imitation of panelling with cartouches and heraldic shields. Also painted is a fire surround with Corinthian columns 'supporting' a pedimented overmantel. Primary and secondary joists throughout the house have ovolo chamfers with ogee stops.
