COSSINGTON CP MIDDLE ROAD (South side) ST34SE

6/32 Cossington Grange - - II

(Whole building marked on OS map as Cossington Grange, only east half now known as Cossington Grange; west half known as Cossington House is not of special interest). Country house, now offices. Early/mid C19. Coursed and squared rubble, wide bracketted eaves, low pitched hipped slate roof, rendered stacks. Symmetrical front; 2 storeys, 2:1:2 bays, centre breaks forward slightly, sash windows in colourwashed brick surrounds, 9-panes to first floor, ground floor withglazing bars removed. Central door opening, recessed paired half-glazed doors, fanlight with glazing bars; semi-circular head outer doorway, moulded head supported on a short section of entablature to each side on a Tuscan column and a Tuscan pilaster to wall; paired panelled doors and a narrow light between the column and pilaster to eachside. Conforming style to rear, altered semi-circular head stairlight. Interior with fine cantilevered geometric staircase, ornamental iron balusters, wreathed mahogany handrail; ornamental plaster cornices; panelled archways; some C20 internal division and alteration.
