VITTORIA STREET 1. 5104 (east side) Hockley B1 Nos 41 to 49 (odd) (Standard Works) SP 0687 NW 24/31 II GV 2. 1879-80 architect Thomas F Williams. A large factory on a corner site in fact built as 15 separate industrial units and one of the best examples in the area. The rich modelling of the ground floor would appear to indicate an earlier C1860-70 build with a rehandling of the upper floors in 1879-80 but structurally it would seem all of a piece with load bearing walls, post and iron beam in the basement and wrought iron beams to upper floors, an early instance of metal construction in the jewellery quarter befitting the wider than normal floor spans. Three storey long elevations of close set bays to both fronts and rounded corner. Rusticated and vermiculated painted stonework to round arched ground floor doorways with boldly modelled heavy console keystones with swags (each doorway originally gave access to a unit of the "flatted" works). Deeply moulded ground floor cornice. Painted brickwork to upper floors with narrow window bays grouped in bands of 3 with full height brick dividing piers, broader arched bays in line with doorways. Ground floor cornice and first floor sill band broken forward with piers creating high relief. The ground floor windows are iron framed with panelled pilaster steps dividing, surmounted by consoles rising to breaks in cornice. The heads of the upper floor window panels are stepped out to wall face which originally had eaves cornice, now with plain capping.
