A pair of houses. Early C18 with refronting of c1830. Timber-framed, fronted in white brick; shallow-pitched slate roof with a plain eaves soffit; an internal chimney-stack with a tall narrow rectangular white brick shaft. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and cellars. 2 window range: 16-pane sashes to all 3 storeys in flush cased frames; flat arches to the 1st and 2nd storeys, slightly larger ground storey windows with segmental-arched heads to frames and surrounds. 2 plain semicircular-headed brick doorways have 6-panelled doors in reeded architraves with radial glazing-bars to the fanlights. Above the ground-storey window of No.46 a small plaque reads 'Restored 1977, D.M.G K.A.B.' INTERIOR: of No.47 much modernised. Cellar rendered with a replacement ceiling. On the 1st storey landing a section of mid-C18 balusters from the former stair with a replaced handrail. Stair to the 2nd storey with stick balusters and plain handrail. The principal room on the 1st storey has a late C18 fireplace with fluted engaged columns and a fluted frieze. On the 2nd storey the rear room has a fireplace with a bolection-moulded surround. No.46 has a fireplace in the 1st storey front room exactly like that in No.47; in the same room a plaster cornice with egg-and-dart and bead-and-reel ornament. 3 other upper rooms have cast-iron raised grates in C19 Gothick style. Stair with stick balusters and plain handrail.
