12/60 The Manor House (previously listed 9.7.51 as Wereham Manor) GV II
House, now residential home for the elderly. Dated 1722 and 1729, the former referring to the flint and carstone construction, the latter to the brick refacing of facade. Roofs of black glazed pantiles. 2 storeys and dormer attic. Main front of 2 elements, that to right of 4 bays : sash windows with glazing bars behind rendered architraves with keystones and aprons. Moulded string course below fielded parapet. 3 bay block set back to left: 2 sashes to ground and 3 to first floor as before, to right panelled door within fluted case. Corners of both elements with clasping brick pilaster strips. Single bay return between the 2 blocks with one sash each floor as before and date- stone 1729 in parapet. Parapet continuous through entire facade. Gabled roofs, hipped to accommodate set-back bay. 3 flat-headed dormers in right block, 2 in left block, all with casements with glazing bars. Ridge stack left of centre and at internal north gable. Rear elevation of asymmetrical disposition and with scattered fenestration of C18 sashes with glazing bars and segmental heads, all within flush timber frames. Brick quoins and window surrounds. Gabled roof. To right 2 storey gabled cross wings. 2 C18 sash windows with glazing bars and segmental heads to ground floor and 2 flat-headed C18 sashes to first floor. Gable heads bifurcate above, both with tumbling, that to right with datestone 1722.
