SNOWSHILL SNOWSHILL VILLAGE SP 0833-0933 12/43 Nos 1-3 (consecutive) Manor Cottages (formerly listed as 4.7.60 Snowshill Manor Cottages) GV II Three attached cottages, partly subdivided. C17, C18, part enlarged C19, altered mid-late C20. Roughly squared; coursed stone, thinner courses with large quoins at left end, stone slate roof. Continuous range, one room deep, slight rear wings at right end, 10 windows long, 1 1/2 storeys, one window section to right of centre raised to 2 storeys. Apart from mullioned window all windows in first section mid-late C20. At left end, boarded door, 2-piece stone lintel, cantilevered over opening. To right 2-light metal window, leaded lights, similar lintel; vertical joint in stonework. Three-light casement window, timber lintel; 2-light mullioned window; boarded door and 2-light casement window, both with timber lintels. Above 5 gabled dormers, each with 2-light casements, left 2 with earlier metal opening lights and leaded lights. Ashlar chimney with moulded cap on ridge above vertical joint, further chimney behind second dormer. To right 2-storey block, boarded stable door with deep stone lintel, small pane Yorkshire-sliding sash, timber lintel. Above eaves raised, 2-light metal casement, half-hipped roof, chimney against gable on right. To right range original height: Yorkshire-sliding sash, timber lintel, small-pane window under deep stone lintel, replacing doorway; boarded door to right with timber lintel, 2-light, C20 wooden casement, small panes, deep stone lintel; sill originally lower. Four-light mullion window with hoodmould, with original iron casements; boarded door under lean-to wooden porch, boarded and trellis sides; 2-light mullioned window. Above, 4-gabled dormers, each with 2-light mid-late C20 metal casements. Chimney with moulded cap on ridge at right of first dormer, further diagonally-set chimney at rear to right. First section had only 2 dormers originally: roof has been raised to end bay. Forms group with No 4 Manor Cottages and Snowshill Manor (q.v.). (Photographs at N.M.R.)
