Description

PARISH OF ECKINGTON DRONFIELD ROAD SK 47 NW 7/82 Marsh Lane Farmhouse 1.8.75 II House. 1681 with C19 alterations, restored in C20. Coursed rubble coal measures sandstone with a shallow moulded plinth to part of the building, coped gables with moulded kneelers, central stone stack and concrete tiled roof. Cruciform plan, with two doorways, both on east facing elevations. East elevation. Two storeys with attics, three bays, the central bay advanced as the eastern arm of the cruciform plan. North bay with doorway having an ashlar quoined surround with chamfer margin, massive lintel and hoodmould with dropped ends forming part of a stringcourse which extends to the south gable. Stacked 2-light chamfer mullioned windows to the east of the doorway, the ground floor opening beneath a hoodmould with dropped returns, the upper window deeper, and possibly altered. Advanced gable to centre, with stacked 2-light chamfer mullions to ground, first and attic floors, that to the ground floor with the continuous stringcourse interrupted at the window head, the first floor window with hoodmould with dropped ends, possibly altered. Shallow 2-light attic window beneath hoodmould with dropped ends. 2-light windows to flanking walls, also chamfer mullioned. South bay with doorway in angle of main range and advanced range, with quoined surround with chamfered margin bearing inscription I.C.1681. Hoodmoulds forms part of moulded stringcourse. C20 casements throughout with diamond leaded lights. Blocked inserted doorway to north gable.
