House. 1900-05. By W E Tower. Timber framed with rendered infill and stone slate roof. Domestic Revival Style. Two storeys. Entrance front: E-shaped and near symmetrical with a central gabled porch and slightly projecting gabled wings to either side. Single storey stable wing to left and large gabled projecting wing at right. Central arch has round arch with decorated spandrels carved with roses - the initials M B and F B. Three arched panels to either side and small framing with brattished enrichment. Small-framing to side walls. Coved and jettied first floor with decorated brackets to either side. Small framed walling with slightly projecting first floor window with moulded surround and a window of 5 mullioned lights with a transom. Coving to jettied gable which has a moulded bressumer and king post and ogee braces to the gable, which also has moulded bargeboards and a bargepost with crocketed pinnacle. To right is red ashlar walling to the lower wall with a window of 12 lights above with mullions and a transom and a king mullion to the centre. Coved eaves above with quatrefoils as decoration. Glazed projecting great hall oriel to right with decorated gable above, 6 lights to front and three to left hand side. To the right of this is a projecting wing the courtyard side of which has a chimney breast of ashlar with offsets and two diamond-pattern flues. The western gable end of this wing has lower walling of red sandstone with ground and first floor windows of 7 lights with mullions and a transom and jettied first floor and gables with decorative framing of 1/4-circles to the gable. To the left of the symmetrical portion of the entrance front is a projecting single storey stable wing. This has a gable end facing the entrance courtyard with a 6-light mullioned window and ogee struts and king post to gable end. The south face has close studding to the lower walls and six 2-light windows with quatrefoils between and coved eaves above. The centre of the ridge is a square shingled clock turret with a diamond-shaped wooden clock board with circular dial, obelisks to the corners and an octagonal bell cote with volute buttresses, arched openings and an ogee dome with ball finial. To the left of this is a projecting wing with rendered lower walling and small framing above with a 5-light ground floor and 5-light first floor window and decorated 1/4 circle framing to the gable. To left again is a recessed range with an archway at right and 3 gabled bays to left again with modern brickwork. Garden front: 9 bays, the 7 at left being symmetrical with canted bays to centre, left and right forming five sides of an octagon each face having 3 lights with mullions and a transom. Between are 5-light windows with mullions and transoms set in small framed walling with angle braces. Similar arrangement to first floor save that the windows between are without transoms. Gables above the canted bays with angle braces and barge posts. Further smaller gables above each of the other bays all with decorated barge boards. The two further bays at left have a 5-light window at left and a door to right with a 5-light first floor window at left and a 4-light window to right. Gable of smaller type over left hand window. A wing to the right of this was demolished within the last twenty years. Interior: Hall with glazed screens passage and gallery over and oriel. Hammer-beam roof with suspended bosses. Jettied and coved bedroom gallery. Panelled Jacobean fireplace of variegated marble. Drawing room, plaster Jacobean ceiling with pendant bosses and frieze showing mermaids. Study has moulded wall posts and panelled pitched ceiling. Bay window has 6 roundels and one square panel of German early Renaissance glass. Ground floor gallery to south front of courtyard has further panels of German Renaissance stained glass.
