EGLOSKERRY PENHEALE SX 28 NE 8/57 Penheale Barton - GV II

Farmhouse. 1835 (datestone). Built for Henry Addington Simcoe. Stone rubble with granite dressings and moulded plinth. Slate hung on the left hand side. Slate roof with gable ends and deep overhanging eaves. Crested ridge tiles. Stone rubble axial and end stacks with moulded caps. Plan: Front range of three room and through passage plan, the lower end on right heated by an end stack, the hall heated by an axial stack backing onto the passage and the inner room beyond to left heated by an end stack. Probably contemporary rear wings of one room plan to rear right and left and C20 service outshut added to rear of passage. Attached on the higher left hand side is a circa early to mid C19 outbuilding, probably originally a shippon or stable with loft above, which has been partly incorporated into the house. The farm house is stylistically based on a house of the early C17. Exterior: Two storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window front with entrance to right of centre. 4-centred chamfered granite arch with datestone and arms of Simcoe family above. C19 plank door. Two 3-light mullion windows to left and one to right. First floor has four 2-light mullion windows above the ground floor openings. Lower range adjoining to left, originally a shippon or stable with loft above. The rear elevation has dressed stone segmental arches, two plank doors flanking a central 3- light casement and two 2-light casements on first floor. Interior: C19 and C20 joinery and carpentry details.
