Cottage. Circa early C18, with late C18 or C19 extension. Local stone rubble, painted at the front. Thatched roof with gabled end to right and half hipped to left. Integral stack on right hand end with short stone shaft with string and cornice. Plan: Small 2-storey 1-room plan cottage, heated from a stack at the right hand end and with a newel stair beside the stack in a stair turret in the rear right corner. The doorway is at the centre of the front suggesting the cottage originally had a 2-room plan. The cottage is built into bedrock at the left (west) end and in circa late C18 or C19 a small single storey extension was built at the first floor level on the rock at this end. Exterior: 1 storey and attic. 3 bay front. The original cottage is the symmetrical 2 windows to the right with a central doorway with a C20 glazed door and very small 2-light late C19 casements with glazing bar, the first floor with eyebrow eaves above. To the left the C18/19 extension is set back. At the rear a large circular stair turret on the left hand corner and a C20 horizontal window slit at the centre. The right hand (east) gable end has various C20 casements. The left hand (west) end has a large C20 case- ment. Interior: The ground floor room has later ceiling joists and a large fire- place with a rough slate on edge lintel. To the left of the fireplace a wooden newel staircase in a circular turret. The roof structure appears to have been rebuilt and has straight principal rafters supported in the wall tops.
