House. C15/C16 or earlier origin with later alterations and additions. Timber
framed and plastered brick. Red tiled roof of 2 ranges, the lower to right.
Large off centre forward red brick chimney stack to left range. First floor
with central bays forward, plastered panel between windows, 1:2:1 window range
of 2 light casements and horizontal sliding sashes, all small paned. Ground
floor 2:2:1 windows, of casements, tripartite and vertically sliding sashes. 4
panelled door to left. Internal features include inglenook fireplace, wall
studs, stop chamfered and moulded bridging joists and ceiling beams, brick
floor. Formerly a public house, an indenture dated 1636 states "known as the
sign of the Crown."
