Farmhouse, now detached house. Late C14, altered c1600, c1700 and C20. Rubble stone, possibly originally timber framed, tiled roof with stone and brick stacks. L-plan, 3-bay hall house with 2-bay open hall. Single-storey and attic, 3-windows. C20 door and steel casement to left, 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement with dripstone and 3-light steel casement to right. Gabled C20 dormer to left. Right return has steel casements. Rear has C20 door to right, 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement with dripstone and steel casement in blocked doorway to left, full gabled attic dormer with 3-light mullioned casement and coped verge. To rear right is 2 storey wing of c1700 with 2-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements and blocked doorway, rear of wing has 3-light and 2-light mullioned casements, some with leaded lights. Interior retains fine deep arch-braced collar truss to former open hall, particularly good chamfered ogee cusping to arch-brace, principals and collar are hollow-chamfered, 2 bays either side of this truss have smoke-blackened timbers. The north solar bay separated by former closed truss. Floor and stone stack inserted late C16; deep chamfered ceiling beam and exposed joists, open fireplace with chamfered stone jambs to chamfered lintel with curved corners. Rear wing has chamfered beams with runout stops, bolection-moulded stone fireplace from ground floor reset in C19 south bay in 1950s. An unusual survival of a hall house, probably the house of an important freeholder, also the property of the Abbess of Shaftesbury. (R. Colt Hoare, Modern History of Wiltshire, 1829)
