11/257 Old Farmhouse c.20 metres north of Cock Hall Farmhouse - GV II
Farmhouse, c.1700, altered, now derelict and used as chicken house (1984). Coursed sandstone rubble, stone slate roof with gable chimneys. T-shaped: original 2-bay baffle-entry plan house with rear extension. Two storeys ( top courses of walls on all sides in different masonry; possibly raised in later C18); doorway at right hand end has chamfered surround, large jambstones and rectangular lintel, blocked rectangular opening above this; ground floor has 2 double-chamfered mullion windows, of 2 and 3 lights, the latter with narrower centre light; 1st floor has two 3-light windows with rectangular flush mullions; all windows lacking glazing at time of survey. Right return wall has narrow fire window (blocked) and 2-light flush mullion window. Rear of 1st bay has ground floor window with a chamfered mullion. Rear extension one bay and 2 storeys has on east side a door and a 3-light flush mullion window on each floor. Interior: severely damaged but 1st bay has axial partition wall of massive flagstones, the front room containing a parlour fireplace with fluted jambs, imposts, fluted- patterned lintel, and moulded cornice; 2nd bay has larger but plain fireplace. House is good example of transitional type.
