HENDERSKELFE PRETTY WOOD SE 76 NW Castle Howard 7/51 The Four Faces 25.1.54 GV I Sculpture. Before 1727. By Nicholas Hawksmoor for Charles Howard, 3rd Earl of Carlisle. Limestone, approximately 6 metres in height. Massive square plinth carries 4 pulvinated courses on which stands a rusticated base with raised panels and moulded cornice. A tapering column above carries a bulbous 4-cornered sculpture with damaged faces to each facade. Damaged apex. Appears on estate map of 1727. HBMC, Register of Parks and Gardens of special historic interest in England, Part 32, North Yorkshire: Castle Howard, Grade I.
