House with extension to rear now a separate cottage. Dated and inscribed over entrance T & B B 1718 (Thomas and Barbara Backhouse). Painted stucco with eaves cornice and raised V-jointed quoins. Graduated greenslate roof with brick chimney stacks. 2 storeys, 3 bays with lower 2-bay cottage to right rear. Top-glazed 4-panel door in bolection surround under swan-neck pediment enclosing date and inscription. Sash windows in painted stone architraves. Extension has round-arched sash staircase window with glazing bars. Smaller square sash window to right. Gate Bridge Cottage continues under common roof. Lean-to extension has 4-panel side door with C20 lattice porch. Small sash windows in painted stone surrounds. Once the home of Woodcock Graves, writer of the song, 'D'ye ken John Peel'.
