A 3-room, through-passage, plan house of jointed cruck construction, the service end to the left of the passage. The hall and inner room were originally open to the roof where the timbers appear to be smoke blackened. Stacks and first floor were probably inserted in the late C16 or early C17. The hall stack backs on to the passage, and the inner room is heated by an external end stack. The service end was always of 2 storeys and heated by an internal end stack. All stacks with brick shafts. A winder stair in a turret stands to the rear of the hall and inner room, its newel post adjacent to one of the jointed cruck trusses. 2 storeys. Exterior. Front: irregular 3-window range ; first floor with 2-light casement windows under shallow eyebrow eaves. Ground floor with four 2 and 3-light casement windows. Thatched porch with latticed sides. C20 windows to both ends, but the right-hand end also has a tiny window in the gable wall. Rear: with 3-light casement window to service end, and a small 2-light window to stair turret; leanto of brick, stone and cob mix. Interior: 5 bays; service end with shallow chamfered cross ceiling beam. A plank and muntin screen brought from elsewhere has been affixed upside down to the rear of the stack (ie. to the higher end of the passage). Hall: cross ceiling beam above lintel carries service end jetty and is morticed into a jointed cruck truss; it is chamfered with hollow step stops. The other ceiling beam is modern. Fireplace with side oven, the lintel with very shallow chamfer. Plank and muntin screen between hall and inner room, insitu, but not morticed into the jointed cruck truss close by; it is chamfered and stopped, with carpenters mitres to hall side only. Inner room with 2 cross ceiling beams, chamfered with hollow step stops. Fireplace with the massive lintel, the chamfer continuing around on to jambs with hollow steps stops with bar. Stairs : C19 treads and risers; ground floor doorway with cranked lintel and chamfered jambs; double doorway to first floor, the newel adjoining the truss, both doorways with cranked lintels and chamfered jambs with runout stops. Roof: 5 jointed cruck trusses ; morticed and pegged at apex, cranked collars set high, diagonal ridge piece, 2 sets of trenched purlins.
