Former large town house, now split into several units with ground floor shops. 1703, dated on rear wall of No. 39a, top right hand corner. Ashlar with chamfered alternating quoins, stone plinth, moulded wood cornice and single stone blocking course. Cotswold stone slate roof with large stone end stacks, with moulded stone cornice to left and brick top to right. Single range with rear extension to No. 39 (right hand side of building), 3 storeys with one small central attic dormer with flat roof. 7 windows with moulded stone architraves to 1st and 2nd floors with continuous dripmoulds. No. 39 has ground floor C20 shop front to right, and door to left with 6-panels, 4 fielded with raised centres and 2 flush, and rectangular fanlight over with central diamond pane. Four plate glass sashes to each floor above. No. 39a has 3 stone mullion and transom casements to 2nd floor, 15-pane sashes to 1st floor, and two 15-pane sashes with new lintels on ground floor to left of doorcase with fluted pilasters, open pediment with frieze and cornice, rectangular fanlight with central diamond pane and 6- panel door as No. 39. 2 stone steps up to both doors. Rear of 39a also has some stone mullion and transom windows, and interior retains original oak dog-leg stair with twisted balusters and square newels.
