Description

SD 85 SE MARTONS BOTH INGTHORPE LANE

1/123 Ingthorpe Grange 1O.9.54 II*

House, 1672, altered C19. Rubble, stone slate roof. Two storeys and attics. Three bays across the front, but plan deepened to as much as the width in C19. Each bay has a large 4-light double-chamfered stone mullion window to the ground floor (C19), a smaller C17 version to first floor, and a stepped 3-light similar to the gable at top, which has a ball finial. Between the second and third bays is a full height gabled porch with chamfered round-arched doorway, string, datestone: B lB H B 1672 3-light double-chamfered window and a further inscription in a triangular panel something like a pediment over this which reads: John Baldwen birth was 1671. Arched round-headed window over. With the exception of this pedimented one, all the windows have hoodmoulds. The door may be original, and has mouldings applied to form two lozenges and two squares with re-entrant corners. The left hand gable end has been rebuilt and now carries a C19 stack with diagonal shafts. Immediately opposite the front door is a fine fireplace with basket head, and double cyma moulded jambs - the outer moulding departing round the voussoirs to mark the extrados. The rest of the interior was not inspected, but may be of interest.
