TQ3182SE ST JOHN STREET 635-1/74/787 (East side) No.72
GV II
Terraced house, now with cafe to ground floor. Early C19. Yellow brick set in Flemish bond, stucco, roof obscured by parapet. Four storeys, two-window range. Ground floor has flat-arched house entrance to left of early or mid-C19 bowed shop front which retains its general outline though without original glazing; inswept fascia and cornice overall. All upper windows flat-arched with gauged brick heads (now painted), those to first floor set in recessed round-arched panels with stucco springing band; 6/6 sashes of original design throughout, though the frames to the second and third floors suggest replacement; cornice and parapet possibly of composition stone. The interior has a standard dog-leg staircase with stick balusters, but no other surviving features of interest on the ground and first floors.
